Lenovo Vibe K5 Note: I am using this device for more than a year and I am so impressed with the device finally I decided to make Lenovo Vibe K5 Note review.
So let us get started with the review.
Lenovo Vibe K5 Note is a budget smartphone. If you are on a tight budget, then this device is one of the best options for you available in the market. Before the launch of K5 Note, the brand already launched two more smartphones.
First, the Lenovo Vibe K3 was launched and then its upgraded version the Vibe K4 Note. Earlier both the phones were launched with 5.5-inch 1080p screen and a full metal unibody design. And Lenovo Vibe K5 Note is nothing more than an upgraded version of Lenovo Vibe K4 Note.
Lenovo Vibe K5 Note The latest phone is priced at Rs. 11,999 in India. The company has already sold a considerable number of K series phone earlier, and now with this new phone, they are excepting the same results from the Indian market. Though its a mid-range device but when in hand it feels like a high-end device.
First, we will see what do we have in the hardware section.
If we talk about the sim tray what I don’t like is it comes only with two slots. No doubt one slot will be used for the sim, but for the second slot, you have to select sim or microSD. If you like to go with microSD card the memory is expandable up to 256GB.
Lenovo Vibe K5 Note device is available in two variants 3GB of RAM and 4GB of RAM. Whether you select the 32GB option or 4GB variant, you will get only 32GB of storage which is fixed. The curve in the design helps the speaker in directing the sound better.
Simply the single speaker unit is too good. And you will really enjoy the loud and clear sound quality while listening to music or watching videos. You also get Dolby ATMOS feature. One thing to note here is if you are using two sim cards, there is an option to select a different ring tone for each sim.
The fingerprint scanner does not work accurately sometimes as it scans too many time before you lift your finger. And you may need to make a second attempt to unlock the device. If I have to rate this fingerprint scanner, I can give 3 out of 5.
Once the phone is unlocked, then you can do a few more function with the fingerprint scanner. All the other function are performed accurately by the fingerprint scanner except the unlock function.
Now we will talk about the design of the device.
A fantastic all-metal unibody model is given to the Lenovo Vibe K5 Note. On top, you will find only the headphone jack and nothing else.
Now if we see on the right just an inch below the top corner, you will find the volume button, and below the volume button sits the power button.
The dual sim tray is located on the left side near the top corner.
The micro USB port is placed at the bottom.
The camera is set up on the rear of the device along with the dual-LED flashlight. And below the camera and the flashlight, you will find the fingerprint scanner. And the single speaker unit which is placed at the bottom. The smartphone does not feel too heavy as it weighs only 144 grams.
The display of the Lenovo Vibe K5 Note.
The display is magnificent compared to its predecessor. The phone is shipped with a 13.97 cm (5.5 inches) Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixels display. The colour reproduction, brightness, sharpness, and viewing angles are too good. On this 5.5 inches large display you will surely enjoy playing games, watching videos, and reading text messages.
I don’t think you will ever need to change the default display colour settings of the device. But you do get few options like the Default mode, Comfort mode, and Custom mode.
I think they would have provided a Corning Gorilla Glass which can protect the phone from starches. While keeping the phone in the pocket or a pouch definitely the screen gets rubbed. And after a period of time, you will see the noticeable dull screen.
How the device performance and what do we have in the software section.
You will never feel any lag in everyday tasks like, switching between apps or opening and closing applications. And surely you will be impressed by the benchmark scores of the device.
I played Modern Combat 5, Stick Cricket 2 and many other games and the device performed very well. While talking on the phone, I never faced any problem with sound quality, its loud and clear. After using the smartphone for a long time, I can say that the price of the phone is less compared to its performance.
The device comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The default launcher is very clean, with many Android applications in stock-particularly with regards to menu settings, shadows, and app drawers.
If anyone like use the Lenovos’s Vibe UI, that option is also available. Switching from the default launcher to Lenovos’s Vibe UI is very easy. This provides a different look, feel, and features such as the app drawer which is no longer available, allowing users to keep things organized dependent on folders. A few pre-installed applications are still available.
If you want to remove all third-party applications, it can be done very quickly except few. The Lenovo Companion, ShareIt, SyncIt, and Lenovo staples are the few apps which cannot be removed from the device.
The smartphone comes with a feature which is very unique to the K series Lenovo, the VR mode. When the VR mode is turned on, the screen appears like there are two screens on a single device, and once you put on VR headset, can enjoy the VR mode.
Finally let us see the camera on Lenovo Vibe K5 Note.
The phone is equipped with a 13 MP camera on the back and the Dual-LED flashlight. The front selfie camera sports an 8MP sensor. The brand kept the camera app very simple and easy to use. You can find everything you need on the visor, including the HDR, Flash toggles and the button for switching from the front camera to back camera.
The menu not only contains the panorama mode but also a range of color filters, and you can also play with features more in-depth into the settings. The camera is still able to take some delightful shots outside in decent lighting.
The reproduction of colours, however, is not very precise, and there is no saturation of the pictures. HDR mode just illuminates the shot entirely. This works fine in some situations, but you can’t use it all the time. The 8MP camera on the front gives you more detail in the image but usually suffers from the same problems just like the rear camera.
There is an excellent “Beauty” mode that can also be used with the front camera, and an option called a “fill light” which provides light for your selfies in a darker environment with pink or chrome bars at the top or bottom of the viewfinder.
If someone is looking for a budget smartphone, I would recommend the Lenovo Vibe K5 Note. Which can full fill all of you needs under the budget section.
If I have to rate the device, I will give 9 out of 10. In case if you already purchased the phone then mention your experience with the Lenovo Vibe K5 Note, in the comment section below.
